What is the Dragon Boat Festival？

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Double Festival or Duanwu Festival, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China, held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. With a history of over2,000 years, it was established to commemorate the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a minister of the State of Chu during the War States period. He was loyal to his country and eventually committed suicide by jumping into the Miluo River due to the fall of his state. The people were deeply grieved and, order to prevent fish and shrimp from nibbling at his body, they paddled boats to salvage him and threw zongzi into the river, thus forming the customs of dragon racing and eating zongzi.
